Jane (Carleton) Mudgett, age 87, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at the Residence at Bedford, Bedford MA on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Jane (Carleton) Mudgett, age 87, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at the Residence at Bedford, Bedford MA on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the beloved wife of the late David Allen Mudgett whom she enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his passing in March 2025.
She was born in Worcester on July 8, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Richard and Marcia (Smart) Carleton. She was raised in Springfield, MA and received her Bachelor of Dance at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, sewing, knitting, quilting and listening to classical music. Her strong faith in God influenced those around her.
Jane is survived by her son Gary and his wife Jeanine Mudgett of Charlotte, NC; her grandson Jeffrey Mudgett of Lancaster, SC; and her granddaughter, Katelynn Mudgett of Charlotte, NC. In addition, her brothers Peter and his wife Linda Carleton of Portland, ME and 8 children and Jon and his wife Suni Carleton of Portland, OR and two daughters. Her brothers-in-law Paul Mudgett and 3 children and Peter and his wife Diane Mudgett and 3 children. She also leaves "like family" friends Dan and Jennifer Lewis of Groton, and his other sons Richard and Rosemary Mudgett of Huntsville, AL and Robert Mudgett of Blain, WA with grandson Andrew.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 9 am – 11 am in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home following the visitation at 11 am. Interment will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 11am at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
